Students with ADHD spend a lot of their time being told they are doing something wrong, especially the impulsive or hyperactive students.  The most common reaction by parents and teachers is to punish the child by taking away electronics, extra curricular activities, recess, or time with friends at lunch.  Many parents and teachers will report that, despite these consequences, the behaviors continue.

Students with ADHD are typically suffering from low self confidence and often feel like it really does not matter how hard they try to be good/complete work/stay on task, they will not succeed.  What these kids really need is a win.  They need to feel some success as a way to encourage more positive behaviors.  Kids with ADHD need to be “caught” being good/doing what was asked/following directions/staying on task.
